To narrow down my concept for my music video and turn into something tangible I was told to create a list of concept headings and how they would fit in with my work
Broken Identity
The concept underlines that to fit in to a distinct role in with small breathing spaces weighed down by years of cultural and traditional evolution, one must break and bend in ways that are not so distinctly visible to the outside eye. Broken and fractured identities then result in the making of what one would say roles that are needed in a functional society that can work like an oiled machine.
The idea of a broken identity is also seen in scenario where one plays particular roles and facades in society as Goffman's idea of a social actor , and turns to play different roles when amongst different groups to appease and fit into a social norm of who you are meant to be rather than you who you might want to be.
Rigid socialisation
The idea the process of socialisation begins at birth resulting in a explicit decorum of being that starts the process of losing identity at birth. To fit into norms and values that are attributed to who and what a person can and can not do and be accepted for. This extends to perhaps things like gender roles , does a man always have to like sports , why is it so much less okay for a boy growing up to be into cooking than a girl. Why do we place dolls in the hands of girls and footballs in the hands of boys.
Capitalistic model of being
The idea that in a functional society everyone is raised with harmony of values and roles that at the end of the day will not stray from the conventional deemed perfection and and the idea of usefulness. To provoke an imagery here i would like to describe a scene in a production line where the same object is created over and over and over again and those that stray from that perfect piece are rejected and in society labelled as misfits , or depraved or anything that does not fit the conventional norm.
Sanctions
For every criminal there is a punishment. For those who dare step out of the circle of deemed acceptance there sanctions that start from soft callouts to clear disgust and labelling.Found in every part of society in the bad 5 year old that cries a lot and does not believe in wearing conventional clothes to the lazy rule breaker boy in grade 8 that will never get anywhere due to the colour of his skin or the 'haw look at that girl' in her mid twenties who refuses marriage and continues to work for herself and her ambitions.
Tainting
conceptually the video will explore the physical tainting of being and clothes to show how the society progresses to create a model of perfection in each individual. it will carry a dark amplified overall theme that will work with music to follow a girl that represents not gender but any individual that might want to stray and her struggle to get through as herself untainted and unscrathed.
