Creating this Cd and Tulip may have been one of the hardest parts of the entire process. I might have planned a wire frame tulip, but the amount of head bangs against the wall at 3 am plus the soft sobbing when my illustrator stopped responding is surmountable and will never be forgotten as it was never panned.
Let me take you through the most painful two days of my life. Actually no, that will be an extremely long sob story. Correction , let me explain to you how I created this tulip;
I started out with a .png of a tulip I downloaded from the internet as a reference to create a tulip. using a pen tool + curve tool I went ahead and created a petal. I went ahead and tried to revolve the petal by using a 3D effect. You can imagine, that did not turn out so well. Alright, instead of a petal I created half petal vertically in hopes that revolve will make it 3D and give it an extra splash of 3d-ness , of -course before rendering it I tried to render it in a wire frame , let me demonstrate it with a video. The video that has a time frame of 1:22 seconds,was created after the completion of my work as amongst all those tears the thought to show you the background work completely left my mind.
The next course of action was to find an alternative. I looked back to my technique for making my inlay. I went ahead made multiple lines using the same technique(cmd+d). I created a fill petal by tracing the curving tool over the tulip image I found on the internet. I moved the lines over, that fill created a clipping mask so that those lines were in shape.
The next thing I did was go to object , envelope distort and 'make with mesh' . Faced with the option to choose how many points would be found in the mesh grid, I cased up to15 both horizontally and vertically. The next part was the most fun. I moved my mouse over the places I wanted to bend and distort then went ahead and created petal like shapes.
Finally , I created three circles and aligned the two smaller ones to be in the center, placed my tulip on top, changed the stroke color of all the lines to red and and went ahead to add the same splatter I added on my front cover. However, the inlay I created, I chose not to use behind my CD because I thought it took away the attention from my CD itself.
